My WDTV becomes “Live”!

wdtv_live_pieceYesterday, I decided that it’s time to upgrade my 6-month old WD TV and replace it with the newly release WDTV Live to take advantage of “Live” streaming of video over YouTube, photos over flickr and music over 365 and pandora. Though I’m already happy with my  WD TV with its superb support of nearly available file format to play, I still like to experiment and experience things that will be displayed over my LCD through a media player box. Upgrading wasn’t a hard decision for me as I already sold my WDTV for a fair amount of price and contacted my trusted reseller of WD products and ordered a WDTV Live for the price of Php 5,900, a huge difference if you will buy this item online or in shops found in SM Megamall which is amounting to roughly Php 7, 900.00!

My first impression when I first set-up and installed it to my LCD through HDMI port is fantastic! Not only my 4-yr old daughter can watch her favorite Snow White Make-up tutorial on my iPhone 3GS but can also now be viewable on the big screen! A big news for her, indeed! With this device, I can play content found on my network and on internet directly to my LCD!

I already updated the firmware to latest revision, 1.02.21 (03/30/2010). Setting up the internet connection is pretty straightforward, I connect my Linksys WUSB100 USB Wireless to USB port, and run the Connection setup via the menu, detect my WiFi and entered my security passkey and works perfectly fine as expected, no fuzz, just pure enjoyment!

Of course, you can truly enjoy watching YouTube videos if your internet connection is fast enough to not worry the buffering and watch video as if it is located to your local USB drive. The menus changed also and added some functionality like Media Server (for Network Attached Storage devices) and Network share (for directly accessing the shared folder on your network). And they work perfectly fine with me.

If you have the money and like to invest in a media player, why not try WDTV Live today and make your viewing pleasure on your big LCD more connected.
